Google a introdus validarea prin SMS la deschiderea unui nou cont la Gmail. Mai exact, contul de mail nu va fi creat pana cand nu este introdus codul de activare primit pe telefon. Justificarea acestei decizii este limitarea spamului, numarul de adrese de mail ce pot fi create pentru un numar e telefon fiind limitat (nu am gasit insa si o valoare pentru aceasta limita).

Ideea in sine este buna si poate produce rezultate, doar ca este posibil ca spamul de pe mail sa se mute pe telefon. Google stocheaza toate numerele in baza de date si nimeni nu garanteaza faptul ca numarul meu de telefon nu va “scapa” pe net (chiar daca Google isi ia angajamentul ca nu va vinde sau folosi acest numar fara acordul meu). Iar spamul pe telefonul mobil este mult mai deranjant decat cel pe mail.

Pentru ca aveam nevoie de un cont nou, am renuntat la ideea de a nu introduce numarul de telefon pe nici un site, am primit codul de activare prin SMS iar adresa de mail a devenit functionala. Sper ca asta sa fi fost prima si ultima interactiune intre Google si numarul meu de telefon.

One of the reasons we’re offering this new way to sign up for Gmail is to help protect our users and combat abuse. Spam and abuse protection are two things we take very seriously, and our users have been very happy with the small amount of spam they’ve received in Gmail. We take many measures to ensure that spammers have a difficult time sending their spam messages, getting these messages delivered, or even obtaining a Gmail address (spammers will often use many different addresses to send spam). Sending invitation codes to mobile phones is one way to address this, as the number of addresses created per phone number can be limited.
